Crisis
Care Network Training
A message from
Steve Willsey, National Coordinator ACS Crisis Care Network
Adventist
Community Services / NAD is now ready to offer training for pastors,
teachers, health care workers and others to give psychological first
aid to survivors of disasters and other traumatic events. We are using
the model developed by the National Organization for Victim's
Assistance (NOVA) that requires twenty-four hours of training. I have
received NOVA's training for the trainers and am qualified to provide
their basic training. We have offered the training at the General
Conference, Andrews University, and this weekend in the Atlantic Union.
I am ready to come to your Conference or Union as soon as it is
convenient. Please let me know when can schedule a training for your
group. The cost per participant is about $100.
Our
plan is to develop a network of trained care givers across the Division
who can respond when a disaster strikes. Volunteers would either
respond with a local NOVA team or be deployed to one of our ACS
Distribution Centers where they would offer Group Crisis Intervention
(psychological first aid) to survivors and volunteers at our Centers.
They could also work as companions at the Distribution Centers or FEMA
Family Assistance Centers. In addition, pastors, teachers, mental
health workers and others who receive the training will be able to use
their skill with individuals or groups who have been involved in some
local or personal trauma.
In
our planning for the future is special training for pastors to serve as
Disaster Chaplains. A credential would be offered that would also
require the twenty-four hour NOVA Crisis Response training.
Please contact Steve Willsey to schedule your training.
